To the attention of all railway administrations of Russia and CIS, locomotive facilities, locomotive rebuilders and other companies in the RZhD OJSC system dealing with operation and repair of 2-М62-ММ locomotives with 12ЧН26/26-type (5-26ДГ-01-type) diesel engines, equipped with 9ТК-type turbochargers produced by Kolomensky Zavod OJSC.
Since 1996, Kolomensky Zavod OJSC has modernised М62 locomotives and replaced 12ДН23/30 diesel engines with д/г 5-26ДГ-01 (12ЧН26/26) with a capacity of 2000 hp and crankshaft rotation frequency of 750 rpm. The diesel engine has been equipped with the 9ТК turbocharger. Mainly д/г 5-26ДГ-01 diesel engines have been supplied to Belarus and Mongolia. After receiving multiple requests for 9ТК turbocharger spare parts from the operation sites SKBT LLC has developed an alternative option for the 9ТК turbocharger (ТК35В-34).
The ТК35В-34 turbocharger has been developed on the basis of tried and tested design of the ТК41В-21 turbocharger (д/г 1А-9ДГ исп. 2 of ТЭ116 locomotives), which has given a good account of itself in operation. In the process of the ТК35В-34 turbocharger development attention was paid to increase of turbocharger energy conversion efficiency (ECE) (especially turbine ECE) on partial positions of the locomotive work. A newly developed wheel space has allowed to increase the turbine ECE at the locomotive mode which ranges from 25% to 50% N of the diesel engine by 5-6% providing the turbocharger ECE with a full power mode not lower than 63%. This setting of a turbocharger provides an increase in the diesel engine acceleration and decrease in operating fuel consumption. As for connection and overall dimensions, the ТК35В-34 turbocharger is fully replaceable with a 9ТК turbocharger and does not require additional adapters during its installation on the engine.
The ТК 35В-34 turbocharger has been developed on the basis of the ТК41В-21 turbocharger and has a noncantilevered circuit; it is also unified with the ТК41В-21 turbocharger with respect to bearing units which makes provision with spare parts during operation easier. Location of bearings on the rotor ends provides an opportunity to inspect bearings quickly without dismantling of the turbocharger from the engine and replace them. ТК41В-21 turbocharger operation experience shows that a non-cantilevered circuit of the rotor provides reliable operation of the turbocharger even in case of the rotor significant unbalance due to carbon deposition, foreign objects in the wheel space (pieces of piston rings, valve chipping, etc.).
High parameters of the ТК35В-34 turbocharger in comparison with 9ТК were confirmed during operational tests under conditions of Mongolia with the use of the 5-26-ДГ-01 diesel generator.
Measuring of the 5-26-ДГ-01 diesel generator parameters was performed in the 2М62-ММ locomotive set in Ulaanbaatar locomotive facility on the rheostatic stand and during the route Ulaanbaatar - Baganuur.

Since the beginning of production in 2006, SKBT LLC has produced and supplied over 40 turbochargers like this which work successfully on many railways inside and outside Russia.
During operation there have not been any unscheduled repairs and downtimes of 2М-62-ММ locomotives due to a fault of ТК35В-34 turbochargers. Operation documentation has been developed for the turbocharger including catalogues, installation documentation which provide an opportunity to perform maintenance and repair successfully.
SKBT LLC can produce units and parts replaceable with units and parts for the 9ТК turbocharger produced by Kolomensky Zavod Holding OJSC on its own manufacturing sites. So, for example, the ТК35.06.000 rotor of the SKBT design has been produced to replace the 9ТК.04.000 rotor. Rotors are fully replaceable, but parts supplied with a ТК35 rotor (compressor wheel, turbine blade), are not replaceable with 9ТК parts.
